3 Tips for Keeping Your Dentures Clean

Posted on

If you have dentures, making sure that they are as clean as possible is probably very important to you. Luckily, following three simple tips can help you keep your dentures nice and clean so that they will look and feel great and so that you can prevent the oral issues that go along with wearing dirty dentures.

1. Rinse Them Regularly

Before you had dentures, you might have made it a point to rinse out your mouth after meals. Now that you have dentures, it's a good idea to pop out your dentures and rinse them out thoroughly under running water after each meal. Doing this can help you get rid of any food particles that might be stuck on your dentures after a meal, which will freshen up your mouth and make it easier to thoroughly clean your dentures later.

2. Brush Them Daily

Just because you don't have "real" teeth anymore does not mean that it's time to toss out your toothbrush. However, instead of brushing your dentures like you would your natural teeth, you can remove your dentures so that you can clean them more thoroughly. You also don't have to use toothpaste; instead, you can use a gentle soap and water, using your toothbrush to gently scrub your dentures to get rid of any food stains or particles that aren't easy to remove. Brush your dentures over a soft towel or a sink full of water; that way, if they get slippery in your hands and if you end up dropping them, you do not have to worry as much about damaging them. Make sure that you rinse and dry them thoroughly before putting them back in.

3. Soak Them at Night

There are cleansing solutions and tablets that dissolve in water that you can soak your dentures in over night. Doing so gives your mouth a bit of a rest while you are sleeping and helps get your dentures even cleaner so that they feel nice and fresh when you put them in your mouth in the morning.

As you can see, there are only a few tips that you really have to keep in mind in order to keep your dentures nice and clean. As long as you follow these tips and follow any tips that your dentist might give you, you should have no problem keeping your dentures looking, smelling, and feeling great.
